Top Foodie Things to Do in Istria in September

September marks the end of peak summer season in Croatia and is a popular month for travel to Istria for those who don’t like crowds but like the sun. The beaches are still warm to go swimming, accommodation prices drop, and you can get a seat at restaurants. Some of the best summer festivals and concerts take place in September, such and Dimensions and Outlook in Pula, and there are many gourmet festivities that September is known for. This is also the month when nature becomes colorful and you’ll be thrilled by the autumn colors of trees. Let the fall gourmet festivities begin!

NW Istria (Umag, Novigrad, Brtonigla, and Buje)

Istrian Wine Run in NW Istria (September 7): Istrian wine run combines a kids run, a half marathon and a marathon with one of the biggest wine festivals in NW Istria. Run begins in Umag.

Gnam-Gnam Fest in Novigrad (September 7): Sardine and other oily fish festival in Novigrad.

Festival of Grapes in Buje (September 13 to 15): Wine celebration with a food & wine program, fun games, tasting sessions, music and dance.

Wine & Walk by the Sea in Novigrad (September 28): Welcome the Fall season by walking and tasting Istrian wines along the sea of Novigrad.

Aminess Wine & Gourmet Nights (September 27): Gourmet specialties chef David Skoko at Aminess Hotel in Novigrad.

Central Istria (Pazin, Buzet, Groznjan, and Motovun)

Rovinj Wine Festival in Rovinj (September 15): Festival to promote Istrian wines with special attention to the indigenous wine varieties such as the Istrian Malvasia, Teran, Momjan Moscato, and Moscato rose.

Hook and Cook Festival in Rovinj (September 14 to 15): Fish specialties with David Skoko.

Tastes of Our Fields in Rovinj (September 14 to 16): Agricultural products of Rovinj.


Aromas and Flavors of Istria in Pula (July 7 to September 29): Tasting and sale of original Istrian agricultural products on Saturdays.

Istra Gourmet in Premantura (September 3 to 10): Gastronomic event on Mondays with typical Istrian gastronomy products such as truffles, prosciutto, cheese, olive oil, wines and different homemade brandy.

Istra Gourmet in Medulin (September 4 to 11): Gastronomic event on Mondays with typical Istrian gastronomy products such as truffles, prosciutto, cheese, olive oil, wines and different homemade brandy.

FESS: Feast of Fig and Fig Cake in Barban (September 14): Gastronomic event dedicated to figs.
